Solstice

Posted on June 17th, 2020 by Danielle *Allen

June 20, 2020 is the longest day of the year, the peak of sunlight in our part of the world. Solstice comes from the Latin words sol, meaning Sun and sistere, meaning stand still. This is a significant turning point in vegetable farming, as we're shifting through this period of lush vegetative growth and now on to the ripening of the fruits. Our asparagus season is soon to end but we can celebrate because the fruits of summer- tomatoes, summer squash, peppers, and eggplant- are all beginning to size up and ripen! Enjoy these last few bunches of asparagus and tender greens while they last, and get ready, because summer bounty is around the corner!
