July: The month of catching up!

Posted on July 9th, 2019 by Robyn Calvey

What a great little dry spell we just had!  Finally we were able to catch up on transplanting and later this week the fall carrots, fall beets and final bean planting will get seeded in the fields.  Phew!  There are still thousands of plants to go into the fields over the next few weeks but catching up is a huge deal. If we don't get stuff in on time (or almost) it won't be ready when we need it for your shares.  Timing is everything around here.

Check out this video of Maddie and myself planting parsley in record time!

July is a busy busy busy time of season since all the jobs at the farm overlap.  We are still planting, seeding, weeding, cultivating, trellising, tilling, trimming, spraying (biological based of course!),  and of course lots of harvesting.  I am so thankful for the great crew we have who all work long days to get everything done on time and make sure your boxes are ready to go for delivery.  Thanks crew!

Do you notice the change in the variety of share items?  The shares are slowly getting more colorful and heavier each week. And believe me when I say, it only gets better! This week, many people are getting fennel...one of my most favs!  It can be roasted for a sweet mellow taste.  Or shaved raw onto a salad.  Another items that is new this week is celery.  We grow AMAZING celery and you won't believe the flavor.  Coming soon are CARROTS, BEETS, more CELERY, more ONIONS, CUCUMBERS, ZUCCHINI.  The tomatoes and peppers really enjoyed the heat wave and are also looking on tract to start being harvest-able in early August.

Enjoy the week and happy eating!
