Rainy Days and Mondays...

Posted on July 2nd, 2019 by Robyn Calvey

...always make for muddy fields!  But they don't get us down.  Well okay this much rain is starting to cause some issues at the farm.  The biggest issue is the WEEDS!   Oh my, they are loving life.  We are doing our best to keep up but it is not easy when they grow 10 times faster than an human can contend with in hot humid weather.

The next issue with all this rain is that we can't plant.  And yes there still is plenty to plant!  We will be patient and when they are ready, the fields will call us.  And we will show up ready!  Hopefully we won't feel a delay in fall foods because of this.  Yep...it is time to plant the fall crops!  Doesn't it feel like summer just started?  It did.

The last issues with the rain is the MUD!  We are doing our best to keep things nice and clean for your share but please understand that with a lot of rain, it can get pretty messy.

Check out our Dirty (Muddy!) Video about how we wash lettuce.

But overall I will still always feel that MORE rain is BETTER than NO RAIN.  It might be wet out there and we might be falling behind but the crops that are out there (which is 80% of the seasons crops) are looking AMAZING!  It is by far our most bountiful season thus far.  The rain may make for a heavy disease problem on tomatoes come August but hopefully things balance out.

Thanks for reading!

See you next thyme-
