Settling in....

Posted on September 6th, 2021 by Tim Vrieselaar

It's been a very busy week!  With possession of our new home...we are juggling lots of different balls at the same time this week.  Between harvesting, packaging, delivering orders....and cleaning our new home...and getting kids back into school routines...and getting Reuben on the road (that's my 4th child with a drivers licence!!)....and Rebecca starting a new job (which means we lose our delivery driver)...and Heather starting University this week.....we definitely are going to be very busy for the next few weeks.  Tim will be taking over the Calgary trips...and while he is gone I will be sneaking out to the new house to keep cleaning and organizing.  We are hoping to move over there at the end of this week if all goes well!

There is 1 month left of deliveries and we are starting to see the season winding down.  Our lilacs are starting to turn color...and we have had our first frost.  We went from 25 degrees down to freezing in 1 day!  That was a quick frost.  Thankfully we had already harvested our squash...and most other crops are still ok with a touch of frost.  You will see the squash coming in the orders.  They are not fully cured..but better to just be enjoyed the week you get them rather than trying to store them for the long term.

Most of the potato harvest is done....cabbages are coming off...broccoli and cauliflower are wrapping up.  Our cherry tomatoes just keep going and going in the greenhouse.  They picked over 25 pails in one go this morning!  (ps...if anyone has great ideas for what to fill my greenhouse with next year....please let me know.)  I have considered doing popcorn since it needs such a long season...but I also love the idea of filling a greenhouse full of flowers just for the sheer pleasure of enjoying flowers.

We hope you are all settling back into the fall routines...and taking the time to enjoy the lovely weather while it lasts.  Soon winter will come sneaking in on us and that white fluffy stuff with be covering the ground.  Enjoy your day!!
