It's Back to School

And my newsletter is late again!  It's just been wild and crazy around here.  (I told Tim I would write the newsletter first thing this morning....after I finish up last nights dishes!!!!:(

We did manage to get the kids off to school on time...and the house is pretty quiet without them home.  This year there are only 3 kids in school...the 3 highschool boys will all be homeschooling...hopefully mamma will be able to get them at their books in a timely manner and help them learn yet for a few more years.  The littlest kids miss their friends...but they will adjust to the change in a few days.  I sure miss all my Happy Helpers too!

Last week was a fun one for the kids as we added 10 piglets to our farm.  It's amazing to see how much food scraps the pigs will consume in short order.  The kids were joking that these pigs will taste like cabbage when they get butchered...but I am not too worried about that yet.

An apology for the current delivery week....there are no peaches!  They arrived here in terrible shape and they are nothing more than pig food unfortunately.  This is a huge disappointment for you and for us.  We have been struggling with fruit quality all summer and had hoped that these problems would have been resolved by now.  For now..all the peaches will be refunded to your accounts.  And hopefully the order for next week will be better.  In the good news...the nectarines look beautiful!

This week starts the beginning of squash season.  They are not fully cured...but tasted delicious when we tested them on Saturday.  You will find options of spaghetti squash, acorn and mashed potato squash (yes...it's like mashed potatoes...just without the carbs...I love it!)   Being uncured...please enjoy them  rather than storing these for winter...once they are cured you can keep them longer.

We are heading out today to start pulling onions..they will be stored in the greenhouse for a few weeks to finish curing...but we will also be handing them out right away as well.

Hope you are all settling into the routines of back to school...it's a busy time on the farm (ps...we get our new house tomorrow!) and all the regular fall work is still very much happening. We are looking forward to all the new and exciting changes in the next few weeks....but your veggies will continue until Thanksgiving!
