Farm Happenings for September 20, 2021

Posted on September 13th, 2021 by Tim Vrieselaar

No...we are still not moved!  It is taking longer than planned.  Between harvest, packaging, and orders on Monday and Tuesdays....and deliveries ongoing till Wednesday.  It only leaves us the weekends to get things done at our new home.  But we are getting close and if everything goes well we hope to be able to sleep in our new home by the end of the week.

It has been very busy...and the other reason that we are not moved yet....we promised to get the gardens done first.  Aaron was determined to seed up a big section of the garden with fall rye...and we needed to get all the crop out of there before it could be done.  We finished pulling beds on Friday....got it disked up...and were ready to seed when the rain started.  We almost got it all done!  Thankfully it is ready for seeding as soon as it dries up a bit.

The gardens are not totally empty.  There are still cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, greens etc in the gardens.  But the squash that was all harvested is now mowed down, tilled up and ready for reseeding.  The reseeding will be great for holding all the snow in this winter.  I don't know about you all....but the thought of winter is starting to feel like something I could really enjoy.  It has been very busy here the last few weeks...and the thought of sitting in front of the fire with a book while the snow falls really appeals to me right now.

But it is not quite there yet.  We have about a month of deliveries left and then we will still be busy.  We hope to fix up the farm house before winter hits.  I am so thankful that Tim is a Jack of all Trades when it comes to fixing and repairing things on the farm and in the house!  It's great to be able to do construction projects together and the kids enjoy helping too.  Today's picture is Jesse and Abigail proudly helping carry boards for the bedroom at the new house.  It goes a bit slower when they help...but they are so proud of being able to work alongside.  I am sure there will be lots of little nail carriers waiting to help this weekend!
