Farm Happenings for July 12, 2021

Posted on July 6th, 2021 by Tim Vrieselaar

My heart is so happy today!  After a week of scorching heat that had every farmer within miles getting more worried by the day....we are again enjoying the mud.

I don't usually enjoy the mud...just because 12 people going in and out of my house all day can really spell disaster when there is mud added to the mix.

But we have seen lots of storm clouds build, felt the tension of what the weather will bring...seen them blow off again with no damage but also no moisture.  And now..last night we were blessed to listen to the gentle rain falling for hours!  I even opened the window and sat close...just to enjoy the sound of the rain.

It looks like we received nearly a half inch...and that is so special for all the crops.  They have been stressed this past week and now they are all happy and refreshed again!

Hopefully you are all feeling refreshed as well after a hot week.  Summer is a special time of long days and short nights...but sometimes the heat can be something else.  Thankfully our gardens are starting to produce more every day.  The strawberries are going to be a short crop this year..but we will enjoy them as long as we can.  The first cukes and zucchini and lettuce are coming ready ...and from there it all continues.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!
