Farm Happenings for September 28, 2020

Fall has been so good to us!!!

They are going to pick Strawberries!!!!! I can not believe that we have had such a beautiful fall....only 1 frost and fairly nice days yet.  Not promising that everyone will get strawberries....but we will do our best (maybe some locations will have to wait an extra week)

Our apologies on the corn last week...we thought it was ready...but when harvest day come we discovered it could really handle a bit more time.  Looks like we are still going to leave it 1 more week...but it's going to be good when we do get it!!

The wind has been rattling our heads this week....and honestly no one wanted to dig potatoes today...but they are going at it anyway.  The harvest needs to be brought in before frost and I have no doubt that frost will be coming sooner or later.  There are still lots of carrots and potatoes waiting to be dug.  And since it's a super fun harvest job, we have plenty of willing helpers.  Riding the digger feels more like play than work:)

FRUIT ISSUE>  we realize that we never dealt with the plums from 2 weeks ago.  It looks like our supplier did not give us fresh product.  This is very frustrating for us!! We did sort them carefully as we packaged..but once they are over their fresh time...there is not much hope.  We hope to make this problem up to you..but since the variety is getting to apples and pears...it will not be anymore plums.

Again a gentle reminder for coolers on your deck for home delivery.  With lots of variety...it's not all fitting in a bag each week...and we really don't want your veggies rolling off the deck!!

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather and the lovely colors...take time for a walk in the fresh air..and if the wind calms down....head out to High River to watch the hot air balloons (we went up this morning...but got notice at Nanton that they had to cancel the flight from the wind).  Here's hoping for a calm, hot air balloon flying day tomorrow!
