Summer Share: Week 6

Posted on July 9th, 2021 by Lauren and Craig Kreutzer

We are feeling a shift in the season. Harvests are becoming heavier, and bulk crops are starting to come out of the field. We are partway through our garlic harvest, and the crop looks beautiful. We'll hope to have garlic in the shares weekly starting week 9.

We are very excited about the fennel in this week's shares. If you have never had fennel before - the bulb is crunchy with a pleasantly sweet aniseed, or licorice-like flavor, and can be eaten raw or cooked (roasted, grilled, braised, you name it!). It is delicious shaved raw in salads, or caramelized and added to pasta. (We'll be having caramelized fennel, sausage, and garlic pizza tonight!) Fennel is a popular ingredient in Italy and pairs beautifully with seafood and Italian sausage. Or try a raw beet and fennel salad!

Broccoli continues to be bountiful, but the end (until the late summer) is near. Cauliflower is beginning to head, and we'll have some gorgeous cabbages available next week.
