Summer Share: Week 11

Posted on August 10th, 2019 by Lauren and Craig Kreutzer

We have passed the halfway point of the summer CSA season - week 11 of 20. I read somewhere that August is the Sunday of summer, but August is only the Thursday of the summer CSA season! There are many more weeks of vegetables to come.

We've had another full week. All of the alliums have been harvested, and the front of the cooler is full of watermelons. The tomato harvest is beginning to ramp up, and peppers and eggplants are on their way. We harvested the first Dragon Tongue beans, which are a favorite heirloom of ours. They are thick and juicy and so beautiful to look at. (They can be used just like a green bean.)

We are beginning to turn our minds toward next growing season already. This week's picture is of us breaking into new ground for the 2020 growing season. We have 2 acres in our rotation right now, and we are using this ground to it's capacity. We mowed and moldboard plowed this new ground and will be planting an oats and peas cover crop here in the coming weeks. This is the field right next to our driveway. It is so fun to imagine it full of vegetables! (Bella has requested that we plant tomatoes for soup there.)

Have a beautiful weekend.

Your Farmers,
Craig and Lauren
