Farm Happenings for November 10, 2022

Posted on November 7th, 2022 by Emily Tzeng

Welcome to Week 3 of the Fall CSA season!

Its been a week of kinda wild weather! We got 3+ inches of rain last week, which resulted in a flood warning around our valley. We didn't flood, but the water rose about 10 feet from its summer level! A big freeze is on its way this week, so we are hustling to bring in a lot of the more tender veggies into the cooler (cauliflower, broccolini, lettuce, fennel) and row covering up the rest of the farm to keep everything else alive until the end of the CSA season.

Veg this week:

Depending on the weather this week, last week for BROCCOLINI and NAPA CABBAGE! We have had something like 25 weeks worth of broccolini this year, something I'm proud of!

Ahead of the big freeze this week, we have a lot of CAULIFLOWER! Cauliflower gets cold damaged around 30 degrees, so we cut everything that has headed up. Also lots of FENNEL harvested ahead of the freeze!

First week for BRUSSELS SPROUTS! These benefit from cold weather, so they are getting sweet and delicious!

For sure the last week for PEPPERS! We have a lot of green peppers that we are pulling before they freeze, along with the last of the hot peppers.
