Farm Happenings for June 9, 2022

Posted on June 5th, 2022 by Emily Tzeng

Welcome to Week Two of CSA season! Many people pick up every other week, so this is the first pickup for some of our members.

Just a reminder for everyone to please pick up your shares at Seattle Downtown and Field Bar during the pick up window. Both of these businesses have been generous enough to allow us to use their space for CSA sites and don't have space to store the shares past those pick up windows. If this does not work for you, please reach out to make other arrangements.

On Farm pick up members: shares are located in the walk in cooler inside the black barn. Park on the gravel and we will have signs up to direct you to the right spot.

This week's CSA success tip is:

Utilize all of the parts! Turnip greens are delicious sautéed, chard and collard stems are great diced small and pickled, and spring onion tops are a good substitute for scallion greens.

Not only would you be decreasing food waste, but it is a way to enjoy familiar veggies a different way.

Farm Update:

It continues to be a cool and rainy spring. Good news, is we are finally seeing major growth in our warm season crops. Melons are going in the ground this week and we are starting to do a lot of tomato trellising and pruning. The lambs are growing super fast on all of the spring grass and bouncing all over the pasture. We are also back for the season the Queen Anne Farmers Market and happy to see our returning QA customers and vendor friends.

We are still at peak greens season! We recently made this White Pizza Style Kale  and added a couple of eggs. It was a great change of pace from our usual sautéed kale with balsamic vinegar.

Image Description: Some super special, beautiful, and hopefully delicious watermelon seeds from our friends at Two Seeds in a Pod. This Turkish variety Çekirdeği Oyalı, means "hand carved" and we look forward to seeing these grow out in the field.
