Farm Happenings for August 19, 2021

Posted on August 16th, 2021 by Emily Tzeng

Welcome to week 13!

As always, lots going on this week! Tacoma customers- just a reminder that we will be at Gather Juice Bar until after Labor Day when Field reopens after renovations. Thank you for understanding!

Kinda of a terrible week in terms of mechanical failures/human injuries on the farm, but the veggies keep growing! We went from 1 irrigation pump to 3 irrigation pumps this season, which might tell you how it's going.

On the plus side, solar panels were installed on the new barn last week! We are super stoked to be able to have this on the farm, thanks to a combination of federal tax credits, USDA programs for rural solar installations, and, most of all, to the Tilth/HumanLinks grant that allowed us to purchase this array without dipping into our savings.

New this week: edamame! Most edamame you can purchase in the grocery store is grown in China, as most soy grown in the US is destined for other things like animal feed. Simply pull the pods off of the stalks and blanche in salted boiling water for about 5 minutes and enjoy!

We have also started braiding garlic (see image) and if you would like to purchase a braid, please reply to this email and we can put you on the list! Braids are around $30, depending on the weight of the garlic.
