Farm Happenings for July 28, 2020

Posted on July 26th, 2020 by Emily Tzeng

Welcome to Week 9! Lots happening on the farm these days, with increasingly heavy harvests. This current heatwave will be bringing on lots of tomatoes, along with the first peppers and eggplants (probably available next week.) In addition to harvesting veggies, we are wrapping up sowing most of the winter veggies and will begin flipping greenhouses to make sure we have lots of food for the late fall and winter.

We also have been harvesting our indigo crop, which we use to dye the fiber from our sheep. It is really fun to extract the blue pigment and use it for dyeing in the winter. Alyssa, our flower farmer, is also reaching peak season for blooms and we hope everyone has been enjoying the bouquets.

Just a reminder:

Members who do not work at the Pierce County Offices, pick up will be at the Tacoma Mall Plaza parking lot from 1pm-2pm. If you can not make this pick up window, please let me know.
