Growings On 3/25/19

IMPORTANT: Swaps must be in by Tuesday at midnight this week!  My awesome friend Asa at Local Lands, who happens to be my current brassica source, has to come up to Atlanta a day early to take his wife to an OB/GYN appointment.  So we're shifting the schedule back a day so that y'all can have brassicas this week.  :)

There's a quote about the best laid plans never surviving contact with reality.  It's so true in farming, and some weeks that just slaps me across the face.

This was one of those weeks.

The reasons are still evolving, and many things remain to be settled.  But one major outcome is set - the shell game that is my finances is over, and I'll be selling my house and moving in with friends.  If you know anyone who wants a beautiful mid-century modern home in a gorgeous, diverse neighborhood with a community garden and a pool, send them my way.  I'm including my edible landscape design for the property in hopes of getting a buyer who will take advantage of the 3 feet of topsoil I've built in the past three years here.

I know that my even having a house to sell is it's own social privilege, and I know that this decision makes very obvious financial sense.  I'll have the money to buy a lot between the farm and Cascade, which brings me much closer to my community. I'll be able to save and build a smaller home that better fits my needs.  But that doesn't make it any easier to mourn the loss of the projects I dreamed up for this space and was never able implement.  And it doesn't make the task of culling through everything I own in the hours when I'm not farming or sleeping any less daunting.
