Farm Happenings for October 27, 2021

Posted on October 21st, 2021 by Lorien Carsey

We focused on getting as many beds of potatoes dug and picked as we could this week. Overall, the weather has been very wet this fall, and we took advantage of the dry week. We called in family reinforcements from Chicago. Only one of them was productive but the smaller workers kept up our spirits.

We only have two pickups left of the summer season. Summer-time at the farm is a whirlwind! We are so grateful for all of you who care about, support, and enjoy fresh, local food.

This week we are adding a delicious mixed-milk feta from PFF. Please try this tangy delight on your salad. Or sliced on toast with some sweet, watermelon radish. The feta is made with their goat milk and Certified Organic, pasture-raised, Brown Swiss cow milk from Rocky Road Dairy.

We wanted to share holiday news from one of our farm partners David Bane, of Bane Family Meats.

David has frozen, pasture-raised turkeys for sale for the holidays this year. Their birds are raised with no antibiotics, no pesticides and no GMO feeds. The size range is 10-20 lbs; the price is $5.00/lb which includes delivery to your home in the CU area.

They also have meat CSA's available for the winter months which include pasture-raised chicken, beef, pork, lamb and eggs. Please contact David for prices and more information. This CSA will be separate from Blue Moon, and will be an agreement between you and David directly.

If you are interested you can contact David via email (davidpbane@aol.com) or by phone at 217-722-2188.
