Farm Happenings for October 23, 2019

Posted on October 17th, 2019 by Lorien Carsey

Hi everyone,

Only three more pickups! Our CSA ends on November 6th. We are considering offering a bi-weekly Extended Season CSA from January through April, but we are still working out the details. If you want Blue Moon produce for November and December, visit us at the Market in the Square from 8-1pm every single Saturday in the Lincoln Square Mall in Urbana. Our carrots are sizing up in the field, and we have had several light frosts, so their flavor is sweetening. We are going to wait until the ground dries out before we begin digging, but we will get some carrots in your boxes before the end of the CSA. The broccoli growth is a little strange this season, we have many heads that have not sized up in spite of the beautiful weather. We hope to give them a chance to grow and be able to offer them for the October 30th pickup. We still have peppers for next week, and maybe we will get lucky and have peppers in two weeks. We hope everyone has a chance to embrace the fall crops: fennel, turnips, cabbage, and of course winter squashes. There are some delicious and easy dishes to be made from these flavorful crops. You should have lots of recipes to choose from in you click on the recipe buttons. Have a great week everyone!
