Farm Happenings for September 4, 2019

Posted on August 28th, 2019 by Lorien Carsey

We have really been enjoying this cool weather lately! We have been hard at work harvesting potatoes, checking our winter squash, and weeding our new fall plantings. We are waiting for our fall plantings to grow up to size. Fall is my favorite time of year for the farm. It's when all my favorite crops converge and I can eat broccoli and tomatoes at the same time! Some of our new fall plantings that you can look forward to over the next month or so will be napa  cabbage, fennel, and misato radishes in addition to broccoli, cabbage, spinach.

Right now we are loving eggplant! We offer 3 varieties of eggplant- Dancer which is a deep purple, Italian, which is the traditional black eggplant used for eggplant parmesean and baba ganoush, and Asian which is a long, light purple eggplant great for stir fries. Asian eggplant is less bitter. Last night I made Eggplant Parmesan which is a favorite in our household.
