Farm Happenings for August 5, 2020

Posted on July 31st, 2020 by Lorien Carsey

Cindy is alert for any rabbits that might be hiding in the butternut squash. She's being very frisky these days with the cooler weather and would like someone to play with her all the time. The crew is much happier masking up when the high temp is 77 than they were when it was 90. We had a wet week and weren't able to get our lettuce or greens planted on time so we may have a slow up on salad mix in a month.

We added some shishito peppers this week.

Here is a quick Recipe. Shishitos are a thin-skinned Japanese pepper that are mild for the most part, but some of them are hot. We love them charred and eaten whole as a side dish, or with a nice creamy sauce. In the CSA share, they come in packs of 6 peppers.

Sweet peppers are coming, but slowly, and the cool temps are not going to speed it up.

We thought we were going to dig pots this week, but the rain changed our plans. For sure next week we will start bringing them in, starting with Carola, Laratte Fingerlings, and Purple Majesty.

We hope you enjoy the cooldown and the produce.
