Harvesting: Carrots, Mushrooms, Spaghetti Squash, Green Beans, Tomatoes, Okra, Eggplant, slicing Cucumbers, Yellow Onions, mixed Hot Peppers, Garlic, Red Potatoes, Parsley. ***Sometimes we have limited amounts of the first harvests. If you love something above and didn't get any this time, change your preferences to mark that veggie as a "5" and others as something lower. NEW: farm grown Carrots are sweet and full of flavor but we aren't sure how big they've gotten in this first harvest. Cut tops off carrots and store separately and see below. Try recipe for carrot top pesto. Spaghetti Squash should be cut short way through the middle to keep the long noodle like strands long. The tomatoes for the fall are grown specifically for our farm share members by our friend, Leroy, Sauder's certified organic produce. We love this arrangement so that we can keep offering you tomatoes after our field plants have died.
Farm News: Teen Farmer offering DISCOUNTED SWEET CORN, organically grown. Our friend and neighbor texted us today to let us know her 14 year old son has his first crop of sweet corn ready to pick. BUT he can't sell it at a farm stand or market because there is some bug damage at the tops of some of the ears. Bohdie's sweet corn is organically grown and delicious, easily used for recipes, freezing, canning etc. when the damage is cut off and discarded. You can bet he's learned from this experience and will do a better job next year.

Carrots - remove tops and store in refrigerator in a loose ventilated bag. Or try storing in a sealed container with water in the fridge for a week. Carrots are roots that soak up water to supply to the main plant. If they get soft/rubbery, you most likely didn’t store them correctly. They are easily restored to their fresh and crispy state but soaking them in cold water for a few hours. Don't discard your carrot tops until you try Carrot Top Pesto or save them to add to your soup stock or veggie broth.
WINTER SQUASH STORAGE reminders:
- Winter squash is best stored at room temperature. It can be damaged at temps under 50 F!
- It's so pretty it makes a nice decoration until you are ready to eat it!
- Delicata and acorn squashes are short-term storage only, and should be eaten within 1-4 weeks.
- Best way to keep squash? Clean off all dirt and wipe squash down with a rag soaked in vinegar to remove spoilage organisms. Keep them in a spot where you can check periodically. Any soft spots? Time to use!
