First Winter Squashes hint at Winter Shares to come + Pork Rib Special

Posted on September 14th, 2021 by Tessa DeMaster

WINTER SHARES: if you had a winter share this past year you are first in line to be offered one of our 100 Winter Shares. Your winter share auto-renew options will be explained to you next week. WINTER SHARE WAITING LIST: get access to the winter shares that remain using this form

Harvesting: Delicata squash, Spaghetti Squash, Celery, Green Beans, Cherry Tomatoes, Okra, Eggplant, Yellow Onions, Colored Peppers, mixed Hot Peppers, Garlic, Yellow & Red Potatoes, Red Cabbage.  ***Sometimes we have limited amounts of the first harvests. If you love something above and didn't get any this time, change your preferences to mark that veggie as a "5" and others as something lower. NEW: farm grown Celery is smaller than what you are used to in the grocery store but full of flavor. Spaghetti Squash should be cut short ways through the middle to keep the long noodle like strands long. Delicata Squash is great for roasting and stuffing. Some recipes even allow you to eat the tender peel.

Farm News: Some questions don't have good answers. I like to get a sense of the farm accomplishments at the end of the week so today I hung around the pack barn while Reuben and Simeon were packing up the vegetables for Farm Share pick up at our Open Farm Market tomorrow. Knowing they were tired from a long week of a long summer I ventured to ask... (continued here...)

Summer Share Auto-Renew: As a convenience to you we will offer you auto renew options around the end of the summer season to save your spot for summer 2022.  Find out more in this help article.

WINTER SQUASH STORAGE reminders:

  • Winter squash is best stored at room temperature. It can be damaged at temps under 50 F!
  • It's so pretty it makes a nice decoration until you are ready to eat it!
  • Delicata and acorn squashes are short-term storage only, and should be eaten within 1-4 weeks.
  • Best way to keep squash? Clean off all dirt and wipe squash down with a rag soaked in vinegar to remove spoilage organisms. Keep them in a spot where you can check periodically. Any soft spots? Time to use!

Let us know if you have any questions about your Farm Share CSA - we are happy to help.

We'll keep farming for you!
