Showers of opportunity at the farm!

Posted on October 3rd, 2020 by Lilly Emendy

As I sat down to reflect on the past week what struck me as I scrolled through pictures I had taken was the 2.8" of rain we had recieved in two brief, major downpours since last week and the pile of texts, emails, and voicemails I had to catch up on and reply to. Most of those messages were someone wanting to come help us on the farm... UNCG students who needed to get some hours for their Communications class with Professor Marianne LeGreco, Eagle Scout candidates who are looking to start a project with their troop, Permaculture Design students who are interested in applying techniques and theories to our growing spaces, community members looking for guidance about how we got this project started and how their small community garden could compliment ours, and so on.

My farmer stresses about not growing enough food, our unknown soil issues, heavy rain patterns washing away newly planted seeds, and the ominous first frost keep me up at night, yet truly pale in comparison to the JOY and LOVE I feel when I pause to recognize all of the GOOD that's happening around this Teaching Farm project. We hope you all feel that good too. These Harvest boxes are planted, watered, admired, harvested, washed, and packed with LOVE. This past week seasoned home gardeners and kids who have never planted a seed before helped to grow the vegetables that are in your shares. And these days, that level of interaction, that's happening every. single. week.

Coming up soon: Sweet potatoes, kale, red radishes, purple daikon radishes, and sweet turnips!

Thanks y'all,

Lilly and Theo
