Week 3

What beautiful weather we're having. It has been a little while since we've had some rain- but in vegetable farming- no rain is always better than too much rain. We're very fortunate to have rivers and creeks that we pump thousands of gallons of water out of each week. All of the fields and farms that we raise vegetables on have a very complex irrigation system in place that must be installed, managed, fixed, and removed at the end of the season. As our farm has expanded over the years we've invested a lot of money in irrigation equipment to make sure that we're able to produce great crops for you in the dry times.

We will be planting sweet potatoes "slips" this week- Only 120 days or 4 months until they will be ready to be harvested!

Cucumbers, squash, zucchini, watermelons, tomatoes, bell peppers, snack peppers, cantaloupe, green beans, potatoes, onions, cabbage and many things are all growing along well and on schedule. 

This picture shows what many of the fields look like right before we plant them with crops for you- The rows in this picture are roughly 900 feet long- This is a 4 acre field that has been planted with winter squash- There is a small "drip" irrigation tube under each row of plastic. When we turn the pump on-after a network of valves, fittings, filters and other such things that drip tape drips out .45 gallons per minute per foot of plastic when run at 12-15 PSI.
