Gearing up for 2020

Posted on September 2nd, 2019 by Ford Waterstrat

Can you believe that we're already getting ready to plant strawberries for 2020. That's right. We hope that you get excited thinking about them being delivered to your home May 2020! We've ordered 8400 strawberry plants, plowed and disced the soil, and in a week or so we'll lay plastic to plant the strawberries into. We're scheduled to plant the strawberries September 16th. They plants will continue to grow until it the first really cold cold spell. Maybe November or so. Then the battle is on against deer all winter and spring. The deer love to munch on the yummy strawberry plants as they will remain fairly green all winter. We'll employ all kinds of strategies to keep them out.

We hope that you enjoy the transition of crops over the next 6 weeks. Sweet potatoes, potatoes, marinara, onions and winter squashes are all items that can be stored away for this winter when you're not receiving a yummy share of fresh vegetables each week. We anticipate your shares will still include squash, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, kale and maybe even a few watermelon and cantaloupe! We're hoping for some fall broccoli, cabbage, lettuce and radishes too!

Blessings,

Ford
