Farm Happenings at Strawberry Hill Farm
Cool, Crunchy Radishes
Last week we said our next delivery would be in two weeks, but the arugula kept growing and the radishes were suddenly ready, so here we are!
We have plenty of radishes on the farm stand this week, plus arugula, and small amounts of salad mix, rhubarb and mint tea mix. We also still have a few toma1 read more »
Blooming Strawberries and First Fresh Produce
The recent hot weather has brought blossoms on the strawberry plants at the farm, and we’re beginning to see small green berries. In a few weeks (Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise) we should have ripe strawberries!
We’re also finally beginning to harvest the season&rsquo1 read more »
Spring in the Gardens
We have finally had some drier weather, and Ron has been plowing, discing and planting in the main gardens. He has also spent hours weeding strawberries, and they’re ready to go, as you can see in the photo.
In the early garden, pea shoots are popping through the ground, and the arugula, radi1 read more »

Is it winter, or is it spring? The weather’s ups and downs have kept us guessing, and the frequent rains and soggy ground have kept us from planting much outdoors. At least the garlic is growing well, as it was planted last fall.

Temperatures Up and Down!
Spring is definitely on the way! The weather is unsettled, however, with temperatures fluctuating from 70 degrees to the 40s during the day. At the farm, we’re happy to see the earliest spring flowers blooming—snowdrops (pictured) and snow crocuses.
The days are getting longer, and that1 read more »
Getting Closer to Spring
We’re moving into that messy, melting-snow, muddy time of year from late February to early March that Chris calls “Farch.” The all-day rain today (Tuesday) isn’t helping! But the melting mess means warmer weather will soon be the rule, and shoots now poking up at the fa1 read more »
An Old-Fashioned Winter
We’re experiencing an old-fashioned winter at the farm, including frigid temperatures, snowdrifts, sledding, and ice skating. Now another storm is coming. Will it be mostly rain, freezing rain, or snow? What will road conditions be like on Thursday? If the roads are too bad for Ron to deliver1 read more »
