Strawberries On Hold

Posted on June 1st, 2021 by Ron Meyer

Just when you think you’ll have strawberries the next week—boom! Here comes cold weather again. The strawberries are ripening slowly, but we didn’t have enough to list on the farm stand this week. Next week we should have them (fingers crossed).

In the meantime, new on the list are a few bags of garlic scapes. Scapes are the flower stalks of the garlic plant, which we clip off to allow better growth of the bulb. Chop them up to add a subtle garlic taste to salads, soups, and stir fries. They’re also good in pasta or in scrambled eggs. You can use them as you would green onions in dishes.

We finally have some tomato seedlings to sell this week, most of them heirloom varieties. They had some problems early on, but are looking okay now. Other items on the list: fresh eggs, local honey, ground beef, radishes, green onions, mint tea mix, fresh herbs, red raspberry jam, and a few bags of salad mix, romaine lettuce, and arugula.
