Farm Happenings for May 14, 2019

Posted on May 10th, 2019 by Danielle *Allen

Welcome! We're so excited to harvest your first share next week!

Things are going well on the farm despite the wet, chilly weather this spring. We've had just enough sunny days to dry out, stay positive, and stay on schedule with planting and seeding. The crew is learning quickly and getting into the rhythm of planting and seeding. Just in time to add harvest to our list of things to do!

This past week we planted sweet peppers and eggplants in our tunnels (pictured above). The plants are looking great and if all goes well, we'll be eating sweet peppers and eggplants by July.

Throughout April and May we rely on our hoop houses, tunnels, and row cover to protect our crops from the cold. It's quite a bit of extra work and expense, but the great reward is that we get to eat fresh tender spring greens and herbs about one month earlier than if we waited to plant in the fields with no covers. We also get a much longer window to harvest summer crops like tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers.

We hope you enjoy the first taste of spring in your box this coming week!
