Fruits of our Labor

Posted on June 15th, 2023 by Farm Manager

This week marks the arrival of the summer solstice! This is the time of year that we truly do have the honor of witnessing the fruits of our labors, so please be sure to take your time while customizing, as there is a bountiful selection of produce (and other goodies!) available in your share this week. We have local feta cheese and salami varieties, tender sweet cherries, and tangy herbs like lemon sorrel and cilantro are back in stock. We also have King Arthur Flour pizza dough available, so if you're looking for something a little different for dinner one night, this summer pizza gives the tastebuds a delightful boost. Cucumbers, too, are abundant, so a fruity salsa like this one makes a fresh addition to any meal.

Solstice comes from the Latin words sol (sun), and sistere (stand still), so this time of year is always a contemplative one as we pause to celebrate the sun and acknowledge all that we've done so far. At the same time, we've been busy here on the farm - pruning tomato plants as they begin to fruit and getting the beds in the shade house prepped for summer greens - while also finishing our last big seeding of kraut and storage cabbages that won't be harvested until the fall. Farming is a beautiful and dynamic dance of so many moments woven together and we're incredibly grateful to have you all as partners.

Cheers!
