Vibrant Color

Posted on May 10th, 2023 by Farm Manager
Meet Cindy, our Kitchen Manager and "Fermentista", the woman behind so many of our fun recipes. This week you may see some of her magnificently-hued and incredibly tasty Beet Kraut into your share. With cabbage and beets grown right here at Root 5 and just a hint of lemon, it's a beautiful way to savor the beauty of the transition from springtime to summer. It pairs well with veggies like carrots, arugula and scallions, so have fun customizing - may their bright colors inspire you!

On the farm this week, the peepers are peeping, the fruit trees are blooming and pollinators can be found on almost every one of their flowers. After what seems to be the last of the nighttime frosts, we will jump on the opportunity to transplant thousands of baby plants - sweet peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers (in our tunnels), parsley, scallions, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, chard, bok choy, and more! The warmer temps always seem to bring with them a vibrant new energy and this year is no different.

Enjoy!
