Solstice

Posted on June 18th, 2021 by Danielle *Allen

The longest days of the year, the peak of sunlight in our part of the world. Solstice comes from the Latin words sol, meaning Sun and sistere, meaning stand still. This is a significant turning point in the vegetable farming season as we're shifting through this period of lush vegetative growth and now on to the ripening of the fruits. Our asparagus season is winding down and soon we can celebrate the fruits of summer- cucumbers, tomatoes, summer squash, peppers, and eggplant- are all beginning to size up and ripen!

We had a wonderful time visiting in person with our first group of CSA members on Thursday. Nando prepared delicious arepas and we walked the fields and greenhouses together in the gorgeous evening light. Thanks to all who came and expressed a sincere interest in learning more about where your food comes from.  If you missed this one, don't worry! You can still sign up for our July or August farm tour dates!
