'Tis the Season

Posted on June 11th, 2021 by Danielle *Allen

Looks like a festive Christmas table.... in June! Your CSA boxes will be filled with all reds and greens this week, with gorgeous asparagus spears, romaine lettuce, radishes, rhubarb, and strawberries all featured in your shares! This is the only week we'll have strawberries available so order yours today, they won't last long! We made a special detour this week to pick up the finest organic strawberries from our friends at Adam's Berry Farm in Charlotte so you can enjoy the pure ephemeral delight of strawberry season in Vermont. So many wonderful, tender, green veggies to choose from to fill your boxes, make sure to scroll down and check out all the options.

Tips and Tricks

Cultivate Creative Culinary Confidence!: Recipes are very useful guides that help us learn new cuisines and cooking techniques, and can expand our palates and dinner repertoires. And, learning to cook without them can be a playful, spontaneous, and empowering process. We are certainly in support of using recipes and we want to encourage you to explore your capacity for creative cooking! Once you have a sense of the basics for a particular type of dish, the possibilities are infinite! Check out these examples of Mark Bittman's customizable soups and Buddha Bowl Basics for inspiration! Have fun!

Prioritization for Freshness Optimization:  Cook your leafy greens and fresh herbs at the first opportunity. This way they’re not wilting in your fridge or taking up a lot of room. This also makes them immediately available to consume for an easy, healthful lunch or dinner. Root vegetables have a much longer shelf life, so store them away for later use.

Only Wash what you plan to Immediately Use: Everything coming from our farm will be washed and well-cleaned. Washing it before use will only add unnecessary moisture that will cause produce to lose crispness and get soggy faster. Preserve freshness by washing just the vegetables you need for a particular meal prior to cooking.
