Weekly Seedings

Posted on June 18th, 2019 by Danielle *Allen

Benner will seed twelve plantings of spinach throughout our growing season- he seeds one bed every other week. Did you know that some crops (such as spinach, lettuce, arugula, herbs, bok choy, radishes, turnips, and scallions) grow relatively quickly, and we seed them over and over again? Some crops (such as onions, leeks, brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, winter squash) take almost the entire season to grow and we have just one planting date for these vegetables. As we approach the longest day of the year now, we've planted almost all of our long season crops. We're working to keep them watered, weeded, and wait patiently until they're ready to harvest. It's these amazing fast growing crops, like spinach and radishes, that will keep us well fed in the meantime.
