Farm Happenings for June 4, 2019

Posted on June 4th, 2019 by Danielle *Allen

The first week of June has arrived and so we begin our Main Season CSA Shares. Welcome to our new members! We're so excited to bring you fresh, delicious organic vegetables from our fields over the next 26 weeks. Asparagus, rhubarb, salad greens, radishes, and fresh herbs are all thriving in this cool weather and will be filling your boxes this week (see below for all the details about your box). Our asparagus season only lasts about 5 weeks, so now is the time to enjoy this unique vegetable while it's in season. We love to grill or broil whole spears of asparagus. Simply drizzle a little olive oil, a pinch of sea salt, maybe a squeeze of lemon, and serve immediately. Asparagus plants are perennial and if they're well maintained they can grow for over 20 years. Our beloved asparagus patch is 14 years old and still thriving. It takes about 3 years to establish a new planting, so this week we planted a new asparagus patch on the farm. Planning ahead for the next 20 years!!
