Summer is Here: Bring on the Sprinklers

Posted on July 21st, 2022 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Happy end of the week, everyone

Looks like summer has finally arrived. I am always amazed by how quickly things dry up when the heat hits: our place here in Soda Creek is very typical Interior Douglas-fir zone, and everything is already crunching beneath my feet. The fir cones, the needles, the spindly green grass with the layer of dead stuff it grows out of. No more weenie roasts for a while! I will miss the cool, wet weather. Even though it does slow some things down in the garden, I prefer the taste and texture of many veggies grown in that weather, rather than the heat.

We have a couple newbies this week. Some fennel and cauliflower, which are just starting to mature. This may be our only batch of these 2 this season! Along with our other usuals.

With the weather looking really toasty next week, I wanted to encourage folks to pick up their boxes as soon as they can on tuesday, so they aren't impacted too much by the temperatures, especially those at the farmers market and home deliveries (if you're a home delivery and you are not going to be there between 230-7pm, please do leave a cooler out with ice packs if you can!)

Thanks, everyone. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! See you Tuesday
