Summer is Here: Bring on the Sprinklers

Posted on July 26th, 2022 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Happy Monday, everyone

Looks like summer has finally arrived. I am always amazed by how quickly things dry up when the heat hits: our place here in Soda Creek is very typical Interior Douglas-fir zone, and everything is already crunching beneath my feet. The fir cones, the needles, the spindly green grass with the layer of dead stuff it grows out of. No more weenie roasts for a while! I will miss the cool, wet weather. Even though it does slow some things down in the garden, I prefer the taste and texture of many veggies grown in that weather, rather than the heat. But the heat will get us closer to lemon cucumbers, eggplants, and tomatoes.

We have a couple newbies this week. Some fennel and cauliflower, which are just starting to mature. This may be our only batch of these 2 this season! Along with our other usuals.

With the weather looking really toasty this week, I wanted to encourage folks to pick up their boxes as soon as they can on Friday, so they aren't impacted too much by the temperatures. We will keep them in the truck as we usually do, but we're not able to run the cooler in our truck at the market sadly, so they won't be chilled.

Thanks, everyone. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! See you Friday.
