Our 6th Week of Veggie Boxes

Posted on July 18th, 2022 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Happy Monday, everyone!

We have a nice amount of garlic scapes from Buck Ridge Ranch and Gardens (West Fraser) in the boxes this week, since we are not yet producing enough of our own garlic. We will also be getting bulb garlic from them in a few weeks, after it's cured! And hopefully potatoes.

Many of the crops we've been waiting for are picking up: the summer squash is really starting to take on growth (seemingly overnight!) even with the cooler weather, as well as the 1st broccoli plantings, cabbage, red and gold beets, cauliflower, basil, and tomatoes are on their way too. The rest of the garden space is taken up with later season crops: we have almost a 1/4 acre of bulb onions planted (storage and sweet), winter squash, and successions of the rest of the other crops in order to have them somewhat consistently. Before you know it, the garden is full! At this point in the season, we are only planting the weekly crops now, like salad mixes, greens, radishes, and turnips. Everything else is already done being planted for the season.

This is our 6th week of veggie boxes, so this means that the first 5 weeks most folks paid for as a deposit for the season have been used up, and you will see a charge for each week's veggie box from now until the end of the season. For the regular (ie: weekly) shareholders, that will be a $28 charge, and for the small (ie: bi-weekly) shareholders it will be a $34 charge each week that you get a veggie box. Let me know if you have any questions about this!

See you all Friday - thank you all for your support so far this year. Putting the boxes together is really special to us - we love seeing all the pretty veggies going out the door! And hope you've enjoyed them so far.
