Winter Storage Share #1

Hello and Happy Winter...?

At the risk of sounding like a farmer, I am going to take a moment to talk about the weather.  Where is the snow?  Where are the cold temps?  We need them both!  I know it is nice to not worry about sliding off the road when you are driving.  And it is convenient not to have to wear 4 layers of clothes to get the mail but this warm snowless weather is NOT good for farming.

The cold temps kill off damaging pests and pathogens.  Without a good deep freeze to help with population control it can make for a very challenging season ahead.  Snow is also very important.  The moisture is vital to getting the water table below ground topped off and ready for the season to come.  If you start a season already depleted, it is hard to get ahead.

I am not asking for you to do a snow dance (or am I?) but I am asking that when it snows (if it snows) and when it gets cold (please!?), please stay positive.  Embrace the nasty and know in your heart that the veggies are going to be better next season because of it.

Oh no...have you not signed up for your veggies for next season yet?  You still have time!  Click here to visit our sign up page.

Happy New Year!
