Order form for March 22, 2021

Posted on March 12th, 2021 by Tim Vrieselaar

Hello again!

Hope you are all enjoying all the lovely weather!  Spring feels like it is for real this time.  And we are sure enjoying being able to have the kids playing outside all day long.  The more the kids play outside...the better they sleep at night.  Fresh and and sunshine at it's best.

Things are moving along here on the farm.  Winter time is a time spent on getting ready for next year.  Aaron has been spending many hours welding a crimper for next year.  The crimper...as pictured...will roll over the green manure crops and kink the stems to kill the plant off so that it can be tilled back into the ground.  Green manure crops do 2 important things...they feed the soil...and they keep the soil in place.  We have seen that first hand this winter.  Our neighbor to the west of us does not use green manure crops....and he tilled late in the fall.  To see the piles of top soil that blew into our yard this winter...it was like the Dirty 30s!  It was both amazing and awful!! But more on the awful as we take stock of how much work it's going to be to clean up the mess.  We had topsoil drifts 4' high in our yard!!  Now it's dry so it's not too bad....but I am very afraid of the first rain storm....it will reduce our yard to one giant mud puddle!!! (and I will be scrubbing floors and doing many extra loads of muddy laundry)

But for now....I am thankful to see our fields safe and held down by the cover crops...

Enjoy your week...and don't forget to change the clocks tonight...it's Spring Forward Time.
