Farm Happenings for August 31, 2020

Posted on August 27th, 2020 by Tim Vrieselaar

Good news...the corn is ready!  It's what we wait for with baited breath every year...weather tells whether we get it or not.  Also back on the menu is beans. These crops are a mix of Noble Gardens product and from a neighbor farm.  We are happy to share the harvest with you.  It has been such a blessing to be able to get product from other farms.  We still watch close that they grow crops the way you expect and trust us to do.  Being able to focus our energy on fewer crops and do a good job at them is making our lives a little less hectic.  Managing 30 different crops is near impossible...a few less with more focus is our future goal plan.  The celery has been coming from Amiable Organics and I think you will agree it is amazing!! Hope you are enjoying it as much as we are!

We are super excited to have honeydew melons in the fruit share this week.  Thanks to Mans Organics for the delicious fruit ...we are happy to help share their harvest every year.  Watermelons are ready too...but we do not know it they are a feasible option this year with the home delivery.  They are too big to fit in the bins...but we will share as much as is possible..(also squash in the fall).

It's back to school next week and I am not really looking forward to it.  I am used to having the kids at home and I know with them gone my life will actually be much busier!! True, I can send them out the door at 8:20 each morning...but then I lose the help with packaging, orders, egg collecting, etc.  Our busiest days will be even worse with 3 people gone ...but we will work hard and get it all done.  The garden crops are slowing down...the days are getting shorter and I am sure it will not be long before we have our first frost! Other than the hail storm...it has been an amazing summer....lots of heat and a good amount of moisture!  We are thankful for the bounty we have been able to harvest this summer!

COOLERS....please don't forget to have your coolers ready for home delivery.  So far the home delivery program is working amazing...it's 2 long days with 2 vehicles....And with Rebecca accepted into college in January...she can finish the year as driver without any changes to the program.

Speaking of college...it's a proud parent moment this week.. Aaron is accepted into college for the welding program in January.. and Rebecca will be starting the criminal justice program at the same time.  Here's to hoping that school life will be able to slowly return to normal and that all the students will stay safe while they are studying.  ( so I guess that will make 8 lunches to pack every morning!! ...I am not even going to think about that yet)

To all the moms and dads sending kids back to school next week....take the time this weekend to add just one more memory of the summer of 2020!  We did that last week in Waterton.. It was busy..but the weather was great and we had a nice time just kicking back and chilling with the kids.  They are only young for a little while...enjoy it while it lasts!
