Farm Happenings for August 10, 2020

Posted on August 6th, 2020 by Tim Vrieselaar

Hello,

First an apology to our new members for the confusion on the delivery dates.  Because the entire season dropped back a week...some of you expected your delivery last week...But for real..the second season starts this week.

It's been a roller coaster week.  The gardens have lots of hail damage from Saturday night's storm and time will tell how much will actually recover.  Thankfully the heat has eased up a bit which will help the plants to not have to work quite so hard.

It was so sad to see the damage in the garden.  It was the best garden in years and we had been super busy every day to keep up with all the picking. ..and now..just that fast... we have a lot less to supply you with and we are "almost" bored compared to what it was.  Thankfully we have had offers from other growers that will help to keep our baskets full.  We appreciate their help in this and look forward to the gardens recovery and continued production.

We started carrot harvest early to have them available for the baskets...but they are pretty small yet so not everyone will be getting them.  We would prefer to have them size up better before we take them all out.

Some things are already starting to show promise of recovery...a few berry blossoms, lettuce regrowing, etc ...we will wait patiently to see what comes of it all.

A hearty thanks to all those who reached out to us in this past week and offered encouragement!! It was much needed and very appreciated.  Farming is hard at the best of times and these challenges just added to it...but your encouraging words kept us going! Thank you!

A welcome to those who are joining us for the second part of the CSA season.  It's not the welcome we had hoped for...and we ask for your patience as we wait for the gardens to recover.

THANKSGIVING TURKEYS

Erica (our chicken grower) has offered us TURKEYS for Thanksgiving.  Her birds are delicious, as you already know, and I have no doubt that her turkeys will be just as good. You can order your Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys via our local line store (go to www.noblegardens.ca and use the "shop online" button to order yours today.) We will only get as many birds as we have orders for...so please order now so she knows how many to grow.  (The birds will be delivered frozen the week before Thanksgiving with your regular delivery.) It will be a $5/lb for up to 20 lb birds, $4.50/lb for over 20lb birds. Prepay $25 when you order...rest due when we know the size of the bird - at delivery.

Thanks again for all your support and encouragement...have a wonderful week in the 'not so hot' weather.
