Farm Happenings for September 3, 2020

Posted on August 31st, 2020 by Emily Tzeng

Welcome to September! While we still have lots of hot season crops, we welcome back various fall greens to the table! We are harvesting new beds of kale (red russian, lacinato, curly), broccolini, and chard this week! Spinach should be back shortly as well.

We are also happy to see sweet peppers starting to ripen! Conventionally grown peppers are usually some of the most pesticide laden veggies, and for good reason! We start the peppers in February and are only now getting ripe peppers. It takes about 30-40 days for a green pepper to ripen, giving lots of time for many types of critters to munch on them. We are happy to have these organically grown peppers available for the 6-8 weeks of the year they are here, so enjoy them! We will have bulk amounts available at some point for you to freeze for the winter.

Our bread baker is now able to take on more loaves for Thursday and Friday delivery. Please add a loaf if you are interested in trying some small batch sourdough bread made with local grains.
