Farm Happenings for August 25, 2020

Posted on August 24th, 2020 by Emily Tzeng

Welcome to the end of August! Despite the brief period of rain, the fields are still cranking out all of the summer time veggies and we will start seeing some fall veggies coming in soon! The first spaghetti squashes are looking ready to come out of the field in the next few weeks.

REMINDER: For those who do not work at Pierce County, our pick up window is 1-2pm at Tacoma Mall Plaza.

Last week's heat wave was a doozy to work through. This year we are lucky to really only contend with the heat and not wild fire smoke like we had a couple summers ago. Unfortunately, our farmers in California are not so lucky this year. In particular, farm laborers in many of California's fruit, veg, and flower fields are still laboring out there despite the terrible air quality and during a pandemic in order to ensure we have food and wine on our tables with NO HAZARD PAY. Please consider the following organizations to help those in need:

Protect Farm Workers and provide school supplies for their children in preparation for distance learning

Puente- support for farm workers in San Mateo County

UndocuFund- Support for farm workers in Sonoma

CAFF Fire Relief- California Association of Family Farms
