Farm Happenings for May 30th, 2022

Posted on May 30th, 2022 by Jenny Jackson

We are sad to report a much loved crop is not going to be available for the rest of the season: microgreens. Our hard working microgreen grower, Wanda, has done a terrific job providing these super nutritious baby greens week after week for the last year. However, family obligations and her work as a massage therapist in Alabama have called for her to wrap up this farming life chapter.

This time of year we are really rolling with farm work and not in a position to train someone else on such an involved production. Microgreens are incredibly labor intensive and there are so many aspects to learn: how to seed them, amounts of seed to use for each variety, sanitation to avoid disease, watering, number of days from seeding to harvest (because this number changes throughout the year based on hours of daylight and temperatures), how to harvest, spin them dry, pack and other technical things I won't even go into here.  In short, it's a lot and takes a part time employee to manage it all on our farm. We wanted you all to know why you won't be seeing them on the availability for the rest of the season, and if you had a microgreen add on share, you will be reimbursed.

We are happy to report tomatoes and other summer crops are just around the corner :)
