Farm Happenings for second week of September, 2019

Posted on September 7th, 2019 by Jenny Jackson

Even though the temperatures STILL don't indicate a change in seasons, we are slowly feeling the hope of fall in the shorter days and the change in food that's on the horizon. Sweet potatoes are ready for your shares this week! Tulsi was delighted to pull a few out of the ground. We'll also have radishes, turnip greens and Napa cabbage in the coming weeks.

We hope you are enjoying the new "Harvie" system! A lot of you have asked if it's more work for us and the answer is yes and no. It's a whole new way for us to organize CSA so of course that has taken a lot of time to set up. But offering more choice and "add ons" was something we've been wanting to do to improve the CSA and just couldn't organize those components on our own.

It's all new and different but we're confident once we all learn the new way, everyone will be happier with their share, there will be less food waste because you are getting more of what you really want, and the extra sales will help the farm support the additional employee we hired this year to keep the farm running with Tulsi here, taking up more of mine and Chris' time now.

Farming with a toddler has proven to be harder than when she was a baby and could be strapped onto our backs! It's nice to have her out there for brief periods, but pretty soon she starts destroying things as she "explores." Miranda, the new employee who has actually worked with us in the past, first as an apprentice and then as part time hourly help, is helping us get SO much more done and we are so thankful she was available to come join our stellar crew once again.

So far, we like the new system and truly hope you do as well! Don't hesitate to reach out to us and/or support with any questions!
