Farmers On Vacay!

Posted on August 16th, 2019 by Jenny Jackson

We have ventured off the farm to city of Chicago this week! Tulsi has experienced her first plane ride, train ride, and zoo experience so far! Our good friends Jane and Will had a baby boy 6 weeks ago and we wanted to come meet little Alder. It has been good timing to escape this intense heat wave that's been lingering around a while. Here in Chicago its been in the upper 70s which feels AMAZING. While we are enjoying better weather and fun times with friends, we are super thankful that our crew is keeping things going at the farm. Lots of fall crops are going in the ground, even though its not optimal weather to get them established. Broccoli, chard, Napa cabbage, pak choi, and spinach are getting planted while we are away. We left 5 pages of "to do" lists! Definitely couldn't get away this time of year if not for great help on the farm! The greenhouse has to be watered multiple times a day, plus we are constantly running irrigation when it's this hot.

We're also visiting other "farmily" while here. A past farm apprentice lives right here in the city so we're having dinner with Janice tonight. And Brandon lives in Milwaukee, so taking the 90 minute train ride to see him on Sunday. We'll be back Tuesday-  in time to help get the veggies to you this week.
