Pop-Up Week #2-pick up

Posted on October 22nd, 2020 by Bonnie and Rudy Geber

Hi All - It's that time, don't forget to swing by your pick up location to grab your Farm Stand box this week! Hard to say for sure, but this very well may be our last week of Farm Stand boxes for the season. We've got a lot of cold and snow on the way and that doesn't bode well for things that like sun and warmth!

The pic above summarized our week. Those empty beds are where we only just finished picking all of our storage carrots -- 1500lbs in all from that block! We pulled the last carrot this morning, and this afternoon Rudy began spreading some of our newly delivered compost right onto those vacated beds. Why so soon? Because we're going to try to make a push to get our garlic in the ground before this weather hits us and those beds happen to be recently forked (aerated) and very close to the compost pile (so Rudy doesn't have to move that wheelbarrow so far!). Sometimes, in the interest of getting a critical job done, we just choose whatever is easiest to get us moving on that task, lol.

So these past couple of days have been pretty busy as we harvested the absolute last things that we wanted to from the field, drained a lot of hoses, prepped our walk-in cooler to also operate as a walk-in warmer when needed, digging up gladiolus and dahlias (actually, that's a lie, the dahlias are still out there, but we have high hopes for tomorrow!), and just generally trying to prep for this early onslaught of winter. We hope you guys are all doing the same and manage get everything you wanted to buttoned up.

Needless to say, we have A LOT of carrots still to distribute, so while we will probably not be doing any boxes next week, we will likely continue our carrot crusade, so spread the word to folks who may be interested in some bulk carrots for the winter. Look forward to seeing you all at pick up tomorrow!

Cheers, Rudy & Bonnie
