Farm Happenings for September 21, 2023

Posted on September 16th, 2023 by Greg Stainton

Hello Farm Members!

This week you may notice a few things in the list of farm offerings:

There are a few less of our continuous crops on the menu this week.  We are working with a skeleton crew on harvest days this week so we have pared down the list to make sure we can harvest everything fresh.  Don't worry!  Herbs, collards and all of those regular offerings are still growing and should be back on the menu next week!  Tomatoes on the other hand won't be...the tomato plants have served us well but they are getting to the end of their production season and are becoming a bit hard to predict so we will bring them just to the market until the end of the season.

We have a few exciting new items this week including cauliflower and sweet corn!  We plan our gardens in the winter when we are well rested and have a bit of extra time but this growing season we doubted the wisdom of our winter selves and thought we had planned the corn planting too early so we delayed it by a month.  We have been kicking ourselves and dreaming of corn all through the month of August!  We weren't sure if the crop would even survive but this week, Tej pointed out to us that Marley (our little corn dog) had been sampling cobs for the last few weeks and tossing them aside.  This week he started picking them and eating them whole and lo and behold he knew what he was doing!  They are sweet and delicious!  We are selling them in units of two cobs only as we noticed many people at the market wanted smaller portions.  There is lots available though so feel free to add more portions to your basket!

Wishing everyone a great week!

Greg and Kate.
