Farm Happenings for September 14, 2023

Posted on September 9th, 2023 by Greg Stainton

Hello Harmony Farm Members!

We have an exciting new product for you to try...baby ginger!!! Most fresh ginger that you can buy at the grocery store has been grown at quite a distance and has tough skin and fibres. This ginger will be harvested fresh this week and can be eaten without even being peeled. Here is an article with a bit more info on baby ginger including a few recipes to get you started (although you can also use baby ginger anywhere you would normally use ginger, it will simply be BETTER!): https://www.npr.org/2013/10/16/234888648/tickled-pink-fresh-young-ginger-is-a-sweet-break-from-gnarled-roots

Also new this week are purple topped Navettte Turnips (we love the roots AND the greens!) and “Spice Girl” Pie Pumpkins (we have a few more varieties coming over the next weeks, stay tuned). We are also happy to welcome back cucumbers:).

There may be a few less eggs this week as we are starting a new cycle in the incubator and will add more eggs from our laying hens so that we have even more pretty eggs for next season.

Have a great week everyone!

Kate and Greg.
