Farm Happenings for May 26-28, 2020

Posted on May 23rd, 2020 by Stephanie Bradshaw

Week Two!!  Here we go!!

We are thrilled to offer more strawberries this week!  Please remember that your share estimate is just that...our best guess.  We may need to change an item or substitute something else.  We do this because despite us walking the fields and estimating the amount we should receive, sometimes, it's not as much as we projected.  Please give us grace!  Our desire is to send you exactly what your label says, but sometimes it's just not possible - like last week when we thought we could send a dozen eggs to all our Thursday full shares.  Guess what - the hens had other plans!  We didn't have enough eggs to reach around so we gave everyone 3/4 dozen.  Most people were very gracious about the shortage.

Farming isn't the same as going to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.  We can't just run into Kroger and grab "extra".  This is the ebb and flow of a CSA.  Please know that we are very concerned about making sure that you receive your "money's worth".  I had a member tell me that her husband added up the share contents and it was less than what they paid.  I wondered what prices she was using to gauge the difference?  We are not a grocery store - we are a family, growing food for your family....with our blood, sweat and tears at times.  Please don't think of this box the same way you would a box of produce from the store...it's just not the same in any way.  Think of it as a family planning this season last fall by ordering seeds or saving them each year, by planting those seeds and raising them up in the cold months of early spring in a greenhouse, by transplanting those young plants in the fields and thinking and praying for your family, by watching those plants grow and eagerly awaiting you to sign up. Think of it as your personal garden being tended and cared for by a family.  We pick the produce fresh the same day you receive it.  We think of you as we are packing your individual shares, especially this season as we see your name on the boxes.  This is not just a box of produce, but a labor of love.  Your family will benefit from all of the nutrient dense produce that is ripened in the sunshine and grown in soil that is mineral rich and chemical free.  Yes - this is so much more than a box of produce!

Thank you for your support and encouragement! Your family makes it possible for us to do what we love!  May your family be blessed and nourished this week!
