This is the last week of the season. Normally at this time of year I'd be pouring over spreadsheets, taking inventory of my seeds and mapping out which plants will go in which beds in which weeks over the course of 2020. With all the uncertainty, I'm focusing instead on the good shit happening. I a1 read more »

I spent this past weekend learning from Jairo Restrepo, who jumpstarted the organic agriculture movement in Cuba during the US embargo.   I've spent a lot of time over the past few years trying to understand how to grow food without inputs.  Brandy Hall opened my eyes to how we've disrupt1 read more »

We're 3 days out from Halloween, and the pumpkins are going fast!  After the weekend, the patch is looking a bit sparse, but there's at least a few hundred orange, pink and warty specimens out there for your picking pleasure.  If you haven't come by yet, it's time to grab your future jack1 read more »

On Friday we had four trees taken down on the farm!  Two of them were in the chicken run, so I spent the morning with the dogs watching from a distance as the crew cut off the branches and then chunks of the trunks.   Taking down the trees is one of the dominos as we move towards slowly r1 read more »

As much as the birds make up a significant part of the farm's income, I have to admit that there are regular moments where I really don't understand them. This duck, for example, has an entire pond not five feet from where she is bathing in a 25 gallon water trough.  All the other ducks spend1 read more »
